Richard Fournier ’01
BFA Visual Design
On November 18th, 2011 the College of Visual & Performing Arts Digital Media Department presented its Distinguished Alumni Award to Richard Fournier during the 19th Annual Digital Media Festival.
Since graduating from UMass Dartmouth Richard has become a character animator at the Academy Award winning Blue Sky Studios in Greenwich, Connecticut, working on titles such as Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Rio.
Accepting the award while standing in front of a large movie screen, Richard let on to a joyous audience that he and his friends used to connect a Play Station to this very auditorium’s projector just to play games on an epic scale. But more importantly he said, it was professors such as Harvey Goldman and Mark Millstein who showed him that education never stops. You can check out a video excerpt of Richard’s acceptance speech above. and for a great testimonial of his journey from school to the world of animation, check out Richard’s website.
Professors Goldman, Millstein, Scott Ahrens and Shaun Towne presented this year’s festival line up of still images, 2D and 3D animation and interactive design projects from students in both the BFA and MFA programs.
